“Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago.”
Isaiah 25:1
After nearly a year of work, I am excited to report I finished my goal for my Desert Series! I have completed 12 paintings, which I hope to share in a future exhibition. Thank you to all who have followed my progress over the last year and shown support for my artistic endeavors. I really appreciate your care and encouragement.
But most of all, I want to thank and acknowledge the Lord my God, who is the One who brought me this far and sustained me day by day to persevere in his endeavor. I could not have done any of this without Him, and I pray that whatever comes of this series now would glorify Him. It was definitely a roller coaster of a journey to get through these 12 pieces, filled with ups and downs, moments of spiritual dryness and darkness and moments of hope and joy, which is part of what this series is all about. The range of emotions, doubts, fears and trials we face in our spiritual deserts of life and the God who faithfully leads us through it all, even those deep valleys of shadow, when all we have to rely on is not our fleeting feelings, but His Word. The Word, Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd who lays down His life for the sheep.
So I’ll close with the passage that inspired this series, and another reminder of the faithfulness of the Good Shepherd in our desert wanderings:
“Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.”
Deuteronomy 8:2-3
